Among the many issues that Hendriksen discusses in his 40+ page introduction, is the composition of Revelation. As regards the relations between the text and what it narrates, Hendriksen argues in favour of the recapitulationist view of the composition of Revelation, i.e. the view that Revelation 4 – 22 consists of a number blocks that begin with Christ’s first and end with his second coming (the parousia).
The approach is often termed spiritual or symbolic, but to Hendriksen Christ’s second coming will be a real event in or rather at the end of time and history. Despite the recapitulationist view, it is not a historicist interpretation, as he does not attempt to correlate the events of Revelation with historical periods or events.
Hendriksen argues strongly that the rider on the white horse in Revelation 6:1f is Christ.
